Zu Beginn der Ausstellung fällt der Blick auf zwei Fotografien. Sie sind prominent inmitten des einleitenden Wandtextes im Eingangsbereich platziert, der Ausstellungsbesucher:innen ebenso empfängt wie Angestellte des Dubnow-Instituts oder Menschen, die in der Goldschmidtstraße 28 in Leipzig anderweitig arbeiten oder zu Besuch sind. Erstere bleiben stehen, lernen, welche Rolle die beiden Bilder spielen und in welchem Kontext sie stehen, nehmen wohl an einer Führung von Julia Roos oder Monika Heinemann teil, beide vom Dubnow-Institut, die neben Agnieszka Kajczyk vom Jüdischen Historischen Institut in Warschau die Kuratorinnen der Ausstellung sind.
The word "anti-Semitism" serves on the one hand as a generic term for every type of hostility towards Jews. More specifically on the other hand, as a term formed in the final third of the 19th century, it characterizes a new, pseudo-scientific anti-Jewish prejudice that no longer argued religiously but employed qualities and characteristics associated with "race". A distinction needs to be drawn between the older religiously-motivated anti-Judaism and modern anti-Semitism.
