„Sei authentisch!” – diese Anforderung an das moderne Selbst ist insbesondere in alternativen Milieus der 1970er- und 1980er-Jahre geprägt worden und findet heutzutage in einer zunehmend medialisierten und digitalen Welt neue Bedeutung. Der schillernde Authentizitätsbegriff, der in der zweiten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts zu einem allseits verwandten Schlagwort und vielbeachteten Phänomen in den Kulturwissenschaften geworden ist, gewinnt sowohl in methodologischer Hinsicht als auch als Forschungsgegenstand zunehmend an Bedeutung für die zeithistorische Forschung.
The multi-faceted concept of authenticity became a ubiquitous catchphrase and a widely-recognised phenomenon in cultural studies in the second half of the twentieth century. Nowadays, it is becoming increasingly important in contemporary historical studies in methodological terms and as a research subject. But what does "authentic", or the attribution of authenticity, mean? The following article by Achim Saupe aims to investigate these aspects in greater detail.
